Happy Birthday Richy!

While I'm continuing to post my daily look back at 2017, I also want to keep up with 2018.

Last night, my friend Richy had some drinks for his birthday, and I made him this card

UniQlo x Nintendo, Global T-shirt Design Competition UTGP2017

UniQlo held their Global T-Shirt Design Competition (UTGP2017) during the Summer to design a t-shirt based on a selected theme, which this year was Nintendo!

The designs could feature characters from any of the following series' of games: Super Mario, The Legend Of Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Star Fox, Splatoon, Pikmin, Metroid, Kirby and Donkey Kong. You weren't allowed to cross them over with each other, but otherwise it was open to your imagination.

As T-Shirts and Nintendo are two of my favourite things, I couldn't let this moment pass, so submitted a few designs based on past Nintendo-themed drawings I'd done, plus came up with a new one...

This was a drawing I did, based on the artwork for Super Mario World on the SNES...

Here's a baby version of Samus from the Metroid series, hugging a cuddly Metroid...

This was my take on Peppy Hare's line from Star Fox: "Do a Barrel Roll!"...

And here's a new design I made, featuring Bowser and his offspring, the Koopalings and Bowser Jr, in the style of The Brady Bunch opening. Because, why not...

The deadline for the competition has now closed and the winners will be announced early next year...

Happy Birthday Tom!

As well as getting married, it was also my friend Tom's birthday recently. And Mario Kart 8 was released on the Wii U! While we haven't managed to get round to playing against each other online yet, I drew this Mario Kart-style picture of Tom for his birthday...

Movillustrations 2013: Day 18 – Wario

I’m raising money for Prostate Cancer UK by drawing a different mustachioed man every day during November. Day 18 is Wario, the evil money-grabbing rival to Mario who first appeared as a Boss in Super Mario Land 2 on the Game Boy before going on to star in a number of his own games.

If you’ve enjoyed looking at my drawings, please visit my Just Giving page and donate whatever you can. Thank you.

Happy Birthday x3

I like drawing birthday cards for my friends. I also like video games. So when I get to draw birthday cards for friends who like video games, everybody wins! And towards the end of last month I was able to do three video game-related birthday cards in the same week! *JOY*

Colette loves Nintendo and also Jurassic Park, so I drew a picture of her (in a Jurassic Park raincoat) riding a T-Rex through Super Mario World...

Katy recently wrote a review of the new Animal Crossing game for nintendolife.com, as well as persuading me that I really should buy the game, so I drew a picture of her enjoying a sunny day in Animal Crossing...

And finally, here's a card for my friend Tom as the third Mario Brother... "Tomio", maybe?

That's all for now.

The Year of Luigi

While I was travelling on the Overground yesterday I picked up a copy of the Metro and was surprised to find an article all about Luigi, the supposedly "less famous Mario brother". While they did seem to be struggling to fill two pages – "Unlike his more famous brother, Luigi likes anchovies on his pizza" – the article was highlighting the fact that, in recognition of the 30th Anniversary of the other brother's first appearance in the Mario Bros arcade game in 1983, Nintendo have made 2013 'The Year of Luigi', with a number of Luigi-centric games due to be released this year on 3DS and Wii U!

So, in recognition of this fact, and the release of Luigi's Mansion 2 tomorrow, I decided to do a drawing of the Mario brother that is not Mario...

Happy 20th Anniversary Starfox

Twenty years ago today, on the 21 February 1993, Star Fox was released in Japan for Nintendo's Super Famicon console and was the first game from Nintendo to use 3D polygon graphics, generated by the Super FX processor. When it was released in Europe in June that year, its name was changed to Starwing due to a trademark issue.

Five years later, Star Fox 64 – called Lylat Wars in Europe – was released for the Nintendo 64 console, and was notable for the voice acting featured in the game which included a number of memorable phrases, especially Peppy Hare's "Do a barrel roll", which eventually went on to become an Internet meme and even a hidden easter egg on the search engine Google (try searching for "Do a barrel roll"...).

So I thought I'd draw something to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Star Fox...

Happy Birthday Mega Man!

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the first Mega Man game from Capcom. When I was younger, I remember playing Mega Man 3 on the NES and thinking that it had The Best Video Game Music Ever, and even making up songs to go with the soundtrack. To celebrate this occasion I decided to have a go at creating my own pixel art image...

Street Fighter X Mario Kart

Yesterday, to mark the 25th anniversary of the original Street Fighter being released in Japanese arcades, as well as the 20th anniversary of Super Mario Kart being released on the Super Famicon in Japan, I drew a picture with Zangief from Street Fighter being beaten by Yoshi in a Mario Kart race.

Today it's time for Yoshi to see how he does at some Street Fighting...

Mario Kart X Street Fighter

On August 27, it was 20 years since Super Mario Kart was released for the Super Famicon in Japan, and on August 30, it had been 25 years since the original Street Fighter was released in Japanese arcades. As these are two of my favourite video game series, I decided to draw something to celebrate the occasion...

Official Nintendo Magazine cover competition

The Official Nintendo Magazine ran a competition a few months ago to draw a cover image for the magazine. The issue featured a blank space on the cover (left) to draw your own cover image as part of a feature on Nintendo Letter Box, which is a free download for the Nintendo 3DS that lets you send and receive virtual letters with other 3DS owners.

The winning entry would win a bunch of 3DS titles, plus £50 credit to spend on the Nintendo eShop. So I thought I'd sharpen my pencils and have a go and came up with a drawing of Nikki, the character from Nintendo Letter Box, delivering letters to Mario, Yoshi and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom...

And... I WON!!!
Here's my cover featured in the latest issue along with a rather nice quote!

Its a me, Mari-snow!

So, while Snow-maggedon continues, I thought I'd draw a Nintendo-themed Christmas picture, just for fun...
