Webcomic Artist Swap Project 2015: Wasp's Week

Last week saw the third annual Webcomic Artist Swap Project (WASP) take place where a selection of webcomic artists swap art duties amongst their respective strips and work from each others’ scripts. While I don't have my own webcomic (Yet!), last year I was asked to contribute for art duties and drew Rachael Smith's One Good Thing comic. This year, myself and Lauren Murphy were asked to come up with a special comic that could be featured each day alongside the other WASP comics.

Lauren wrote the script for our story, which I then drew, and our strip was published over the seven days of WASP Week.

The whole page was then published on the final day of WASP for those that might have missed part of the story during the week...

I also contributed artwork for the WASP banner which contributers could include when they posted their artwork online:

And as a final bonus behind-the-scenes Process preview, here's my initial thumbnail layouts for our comic after my first read through of Lauren's script...

House Party!

I was asked by the amazingly talented Rachael Smith to draw a pin-up to be included in her upcoming comic House Party (published by Great Beast Comics). Here's my image featuring some of the characters from Rachael's comic... (click to enlarge)

There'll be a Launch Party for the comic on 13 June at Orbital Comics from 7 – 9:30pm. Rachael will be there to sign and sketch in copies and to be generally lovely to everyone who comes and of course there’s free booze! Yayyy! See you there!

Happy Birthday Rachael!

It was my friend Rachael's birthday on Friday. Her first full length comic book The Way We Write has been getting lots of good reviews recently (and deservedly so). I drew this picture of Rachael and her comic for her birthday...

The Way We Write is available to buy from Orbital Comics (London), Forbidden Planet (Leicester, Leeds, Glasgow, Birmingham) Travelling Man (York, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds) and several other comic shops across the country. You can also by a copy online here.

Rachael Smith vs. The Wolves

Rachael Smith is an awesome illustrator/comic artist/drawer of small purple cats. She also has an equally awesome blog called One Good Thing where she draws daily comics focusing on one good thing that has happened each day - "because the little good things deserve more attention that then big bad ones". I think this is something that everybody could do with remembering every now and then.

This is a drawing I drew for Rachael...

The Amazing Adventures of Pussy Boy!

A few months ago I ended up having the following exchange on Twitter with my friend and awesome comic drawing person Rachael Smith...

Rachael then followed this up by drawing a picture of the aforementioned "kid with cat-like superpowers" ...

And then I came up with a series of comics featuring Pussy Boy... (click on the comics to enlarge)

If you're going to get superpowers based on the abilities of an animal, then a cat is probably not the first one that you'd choose!

Happy (belated) Birthday Rachael!

I try my best to keep track of when my friends' birthdays are, but sometimes one manages to pass me by. And so, I only realised when I saw a post on her awesome One Good Thing blog, that I'd missed my friend Rachael's birthday last week!

To make amends, I drew her a picture featuring Rachael's equally awesome character Flimsy The Kitten...

(This isn't the first time I've drawn Flimsy. I did a couple of guest illustrations for Rachael's blog last year to celebrate her clocking up 1000 Flimsy drawings.)

Flimsy the Kitten

The uber-talented Rachael Smith recently reached 1000 posts on her excellent Flimsy the Kitten blog and to celebrate she's featuring a series of guest-posts by other illustrators and fans. And starting the whole thing off is ME!

I decided to go with a movie-theme. Can you name these films? I'm posting my images below, but you should definitely head over to Rachael's blog to check out more of her Flimsy comics. They're ace!

New Year – New Project!

I'm really excited about a special project I've started working on with the fantastically talented and hilarious Rachael Smith. So excited, that I couldn't wait to post a sneak peak!

We've been talking about collaborating on something together for a while now and the start of a new year seemed the perfect time to make a start! I'll hopefully be able to post some more news about our work together very soon, so stay tuned...
