Blind as a Batman...

Earlier today I saw an article online about a comic convention a few years ago where various comic creators were asked to pick up a marker, close their eyes and draw Batman. The results varied from the impressive to the hilarious, and I thought I'd give it a try myself...

Not too shabby!

Also last week it was my friend Mina's birthday. She's done work designing and arranging flowers, so I drew this picture of her with some sunflowers...

Frog-Thor

Thor 2 is released tomorrow in the UK, and I recently read the first eleven issues of Jason Aaron's Thor: God Of Thunder comic, which might explain why I suddenly got an idea in my head for a comic about Thor. More specifically, the time that Thor got turned into a frog...

Yes, there was an actual storyline where Thor turned into a frog!!
In 2011, Thor #363-366 was voted in at number 5 in MTV Geek's 10 Best Thor Comics - Ever!. I haven't read it (yet!), but I hope that it featured a scene like this...

A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man (Creative Project #15: Self-Portrait)

My friend Cathy set up the Facebook group Creative Project as "a way to start getting people on facebook to communicate their ideas, sketches, and creative process out in the open". Each month Cathy posts a Quote/Theme/Word as a starting point for members to create something - photography, drawings, sketches, videos, beats, music, ...anything creative!

This month's them was Self-Portrait, and I used my laptop camera to bring up an image of myself onscreen that I could draw from. I also decided to draw myself as I appear in my comic strips...

And finally, Steve Walsh works in Gosh! Comics and also does the South London Hardcore podcast, which recently featured an episode about the Horniman Musuem, famous for it's stuffed walrus...

Get Well Soon Chantel!

My friend Chantel recently hurt her knee and had to have her leg put in a... (not "plaster", but I can't think what the word is. "Leg brace thing"...?) Anyway, she loves Pokémon, so I drew her this Get Well Soon card...

Happy Birthday Anna!

The other week it was my friend Anna's birthday. Here's a card I drew for her...

Happy Birthday Eiko!

A few weeks ago it was my friend Eiko's birthday and she had planned to have a BBQ in the park to celebrate, with fresh seafood bought from Billingsgate Market in the early hours of the morning. In the end the party was relocated indoors because of the weather, and sadly I wasn't able to make it along due to being socially oversubscribed, but I did still draw a birthday card, featuring Eiko and her Catch Of The Day...

Summertime Blues

I had the idea for this comic the other week with the sudden arrival of Summer in the UK, but hadn't managed to sit down and actually draw it until today...

This is (mostly) just a joke, and I'm very pleased that the sun has finally decided to make an appearance. Although I would like it to be just a little bit cooler...

When Di-NES-aurs Ruled The Earth

Today is the 20th Anniversary of the UK release of the film Jurassic Park. Yesterday was the 30th Anniversary of the Japanese release of Nintendo's Famicom console (which was later released in the UK as the Nintendo Entertainment System).

Here is a pictorial amalgamation of those two things...

Creative Project Catch-Up

My friend Cathy set up a Facebook group called Creative Project as a way of getting people to communicate their ideas, sketches, and creative process out in the open. Each month a quote, theme or word is posted with the aim to create something in response, be it photography, drawings, sketches, videos, music... literally anything creative!

I've been a bit slack on posting stuff to my blog recently, so I have a few previous submissions to share...

April's word was CLOWNS (tying in with April Fool's Day) and I decided to subvert the jolly clown image with a picture of an angry clown quoting Joe Pesci in Goodfellas...

Last month's topic was SPACE INVADERS. I had been planning to go and photograph some of the Space Invader street art around London, but then someone else beat me to it, doing the same thing in Melbourne, and after having to get the London Underground during the Rush Hour for the first time in ages and being crammed in amongst lots of angry, sweaty people, I decided on this sketch of (Personal) Space Invaders...

Happy Birthday Guthrie!

Yesterday it was my friend Guthrie's birthday, and he had a very sunny get together at his flat in the afternoon. Here's a card I drew for him, with a picture of Guthrie enjoying a joke and a drink (a good combination!)...
