Happy Birthday Katy!

It was my friend Katy's birthday last week. She recently went to Japan for a holiday (Jealous!). And she has an awesome Zelda Fishing Tournament t-shirt!

Super SMASH Bros! Easter egg decoration

While I was busy eating chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday, I noticed that Nintendo were running a competition on their Nintendo 3DS UK Facebook page to decorate a Nintendo-themed egg with the chance to win a Limited Edition Yoshi's Island 3DS XL. So I decided to give it a go and went off and bought half a dozen eggs and got painting!

I painted egg-shaped versions of Mega Man, Samus Aran from Metroid, The Villager from Animal Crossing and Link from The Legend of Zelda series, all of whom are playable characters in the upcoming Super Smash Bros game.

And as they were eggs, I decided that the "Smash" in Super Smash Bros should probably be literal! Poor Link...!

Fan Art Friday: The Legend of Zelda

Yesterday I got a letter from HMRC. I also went to the Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddess concert in the evening. I combined these two things to draw a quick bit of Zelda Fan Art...

Happy Birthday Thomas Flintham!

It was my friend Thomas Flintham's birthday today and I met up with him and our friend Ainé this evening for a few drinks where we talked about chart singles from the Nineties, the correct pronunciation of Dylan Moran's surname, and the relative merits of Patrick Kielty (We couldn't come up with any)...

I also drew Tom a card with him as Link from The Legend Of Zelda video games...

Happy Birthday Mel!

Today is my friend Mel's birthday. Like me, she loves the Legend Of Zelda games, so I drew her as Link – the hero of the series – getting a magical birthday cake!

Hey! Listen!

Last night I went to the Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony concert at the Hammersmith Apollo. It was a memorable event, with The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra playing a series of arrangements based on the music from The Legend of Zelda titles. The music was introduced by Zelda Williams, daughter of actor Robin Williams, who was actually named after the titular princess of the video game series.

It was a really amazing evening, made even more unique by the guest appearance by Koji Kondo who has been employed as a musical composer by Nintendo since 1984 and has produced many memorable scores for the company. He ended the evening by playing Grandma's Theme from The Wind Waker on the piano.

Anyway, inspired by the events of the evening, I wanted to create a musical Zelda-based image, so here is a drawing of Link playing his ocarina...

Happy 30th Birthday Melanie McClure!

It was/is my friend Mel's birthday yesterday/today/tomorrow [delete as appropriate]. Due to some confusion involving time-travel (or just the fact that she lives in Australia and so is in a completley different time zone to me), I'm not entirely sure when exactly her birthday occurred, but regardless, I made her a card for her birthday!

I was trying to decide whether to draw her something with dinosaurs or something with Zelda (both of which she loves). So in the end I decided to combine the two and draw her a Dino-Link...

Happy Birthday Zelda!

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the Japanese launch of The Legend of Zelda, possibly my favouritest video game series ever!

I couldn't let the day pass without a drawing to celebrate the occasion, featuring Link – the main character of the game – and my own Top Video Game Sound Of All Time: the fanfare that sounds when Link opens a large treasure chest! (I sometimes hear this sound in my head when I open things in real life...!)
