President Pancake

Today is Pancake Day. Yesterday it was Presidents Day in the US.
This is how these two things relate in my head...

I feel like Kate Beaton.

Facebook Doodle: A monkey riding a unicorn with wings

I was a bit stuck for something to draw today, so I updated my Facebook status to "What can I draw...?" and almost immediately got a response from Laura Gray with the suggestion of "A monkey riding a unicorn with wings". So...

Old School Scribbing: A-Z Guide To Helping Your Child At School

I recently found a bunch of illustrated books and stuff that I'd made while I was at school, which included this book which was produced as part of a class project during my first year of Secondary School (so I would have been twelve years old) and that I did all of the illustrations for, based on our teacher's suggestions. The original drawings were in colour and then photocopied to make the book. We also produced a video.

I had to take photos of the pages, because the book was too large to fit on my scanner...

Old School Scribbling: The Ghost of Christmas Future

My mum was recently having a sort through the cupboards, and found a bunch of books and drawings I made when I was at school. I was sat having a look through them and I found a book called All About Me, which unsurprisingly was all about me...

One part which made me smile was where I wrote about what I wanted to do when I was older: "In the future I would like to write and illustrate my own books and get them published!"

Happy Valentine's Day

Love is a smoke rais'd with the fume of sighs;
Being purg'd, a fire sparkling in lover's eyes;
Being vex'd, a sea nourish'd with loving tears.
What is it else? A madness most discreet,
A choking gall, and a preserving sweet.
Romeo And Juliet (1.1.188-92)
That's all well and good, but I think old Billy Shakespeare forgot the one Universal Truth about Love...

This drawing also featured on Illustration Rally's Valentine's day rally, which you can view here.

So when I was given this photo as a starting point for a drawing...

I ended up drawing this...

Don't have nightmares!

The Amazing Spider-Garfield

The full trailer for The Amazing Spider-man went up online today, featuring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-man. After reading a number of comments talking about Garfield as Spider-man, I decided to draw this comic strip...

Happy Birthday Charles Dickens!

Today would have been the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens, the Victorian author who created many iconic novels including Great Expectations, Bleak House and The Muppets Christmas Carol.

Dickens died in 1870, over 140 years ago. If he was still around today, he would almost certainly be a zombie...
