Sketchbook Project 2015: Winter

I just finished another page for my Sketchbook Project 2015 sketchbook. The theme for my book is "Winter".

I've never watched Game of Thrones, but I'm guessing it's something like this, right?

Go! Go! Go!

My brother recently passed his driving test, and I made him a card to celebrate the occasion...

Little White Lies' Breaking Bad Creative Brief

Having had a couple of jobs cancelled in recent weeks, I found myself with a bit of time on my hands and, while surfing the internet, discovered that Little White Lies were running a Breaking Bad Creative Brief to design a piece of artwork based on your favourite scene from the series. The winner will receive a 55" TV and a complete set of the Ralph Steadman designed Steelbook Blu-rays of the series, which look lovely!

Anyway, having watched the whole series early last year I thought I'd give it a go, and created an image based on, possibly, my favourite episode of the series: Fly (series 3, episode 10)...

Happy Anniversary Elizabeth and James

My friend Elizabeth commissioned me to draw a portrait of her and James as a present for their five-year anniversary. She sent me a lot of photos for reference, plus notes about hair, clothes and glasses, and I was pleased with how it turned out (and happily, so were they!)...

Happy Birthday Tadhg!

It was my friend Tadhg's birthday last week and here's a card I drew for him...

Sketchbook Project 2015: Winter

I've signed up to take part in The Sketchbook Project 2015, with a 32 page sketchbook to fill and send back for inclusion in the permanent collection at The Brooklyn Art Library. After making a start on my sketchbook just before christmas, I got around to finishing off my second page. The theme of my sketchbook is "Winter", and one thing I like to do during Winter is watch a bunch of Christmas movies on tv...

Happy Birthday Anne and Anett!

My friends Anne and Anett share the same birthday and last night went out for drinks to celebrate together. We all work at The National Gallery and because they were celebrating together, I drew them each a card that joined up to form a larger image...

Happy Birthday Cathy!

It was my friend Cathy's birthday the other day and I drew her this picture based on a photo from her Facebook profile.

Happy Birthday Richy!

A New Year means New Birthdays...or at least the same birthdays as last year, but a year older! And my friend Richy K. Chandler kicked things off with a birthday on New Year's Day. I worked with Richy on a story for his Tempo Lush Tales anthology comic which he published last year, which he wrote and I drew.

Richy also has his own webcomic, Lucy The Octopus, which is updated weekly. The main character Lucy (who is an octopus) has a pet pufferfish called Puffy. Richy is also a big fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. These two things suddenly collided in my brain, and I drew Richy this picture with him coming up with the natural spin-off...

[EDIT] I was just clearing up the desktop on my computer and I found this initial sketch that I drew when I suddenly had the idea for Richy's card, so thought I'd share it here...

Happy New Year!

And now: Back to the future...

2015 will be the Year of the Sheep, so I drew this illustration to welcome in the New Year and to use as my Facebook cover photo...

Happy Birthday Inko!

So it's the start of a New Year and amazingly also eight years since I started this blog, back when I was first starting to think about developing my illustration work and enrolled in a short course at Camberwell College of Art. But before we fully embark into the year 2015, I just have something to catch up with from the dim and distant past of 2014...

It was my friend Inko's birthday during the tail end of the old year. And here's a portrait I drew for her...
