Illustration Friday: Swarm

This week's Illustration Friday theme was Swarm.

Uh-oh! This little bee is as angry as an entire swarm!

And here's a close-up of the swarm of bees in the lettering...

Happy Birthday Zelda!

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the Japanese launch of The Legend of Zelda, possibly my favouritest video game series ever!

I couldn't let the day pass without a drawing to celebrate the occasion, featuring Link – the main character of the game – and my own Top Video Game Sound Of All Time: the fanfare that sounds when Link opens a large treasure chest! (I sometimes hear this sound in my head when I open things in real life...!)

Illustration Friday: Layer

This week's Illustration Friday theme is Layer.

I was a bit stuck for ideas this week, but then while I was doing another illustration, I suddenly realised that I'm always using Layers...in Photoshop!

And incase you were wondering, this was what I drew for last week's Illustration Friday, which could also be used this week...

Happy Birthday Aine!

Yesterday was my friend Aine's 30th birthday and we had a surprise party for her with some of her friends and family from Ireland turning up too.

Aine was on the Illustration MA course with me, and one of her projects was illustrating an A-Z book of beards: The Book of Pogonology. So I decided to draw her a beard-themed card for her birthday...

Illustration Friday: Sweater

This week's Illustration Friday theme is Sweater.
There's nothing like wearing a thick woolen sweater on a sunny day to make you perspire...

The White Stripes R.I.P.

Last week (2 Feb) The White Stripes announced that they had "officially ended and will make no further records or perform live".

The White Stripes are one of my favourite bands and while this announcement isn't really that surprising given that their last studio album was 2007's Icky Thump (and since then, Jack White had been playing as part of both The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather), I was sad to hear the official announcement of the split.

Anyway, I decided to draw a picture of the Detroit duo, inspired by the video to their 2003 single, Seven Nation Army, from their fourth album Elephant...

Illustration Friday: Reverse

This week's Illustration Friday theme is Reverse.

I took a little while to come up with something again this week, but then this little comic entered my head on the tube this morning...

Happy Birthday Jenna!

This weekend I went up to Coventry for my friend Jenna's 30th birthday party. Rather worringly we worked out that it was 12 years ago (!!!) that we met, when we were in the same student halls
at The University of Reading.

Here's a photo of the card I made for her, with added glitter and sparkles...

Save Our Forests

The Government is planning a massive sell off of our national forests. They could be auctioned and fenced off, run down, logged or turned into golf courses and holiday villages.

The Save Our Forests campaign is raising awareness of these plans, with an online petition to show your support. The groups Facebook page is also asking people to change their facebook profile picture to this image of the campaign's newspaper advertisment in order to help raise awareness and get friends involved.

I decided to create my own image to use for my Facebook profile picture and hopefully help to raise more awareness for this campaign...

Groundhog Day

Yesterday was Groundhog Day in the United States and Canada. According to folklore (and Wikipedia...), if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying the end of winter. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into it burrow and the winter weather will continue for six more week.

Or as my friend Erin put it, "a large squirrel predicts the weather"...
